OSHA Color Coding. Rust Prevention. Industrial Protective Coatings.

Piping systems are the lifeblood of any industrial plant, warehouse, or commercial facility. Over time, moisture, chemicals, road salt, and constant use cause pipes to rust, peel, and leak. Faded pipes are not just ugly—they are a major safety hazard. If an emergency happens, workers and fire marshals need to know exactly what is inside every pipe instantly.

RSP Painting

At RSP Painting, we specialize in professional, high-volume commercial and industrial pipe painting and OSHA color-coding. We are a 100% self-performing company. We never use middlemen, brokers, or subcontractors. Our own background-checked, safety-certified RSP employees do 100% of the work using our own specialized spray rigs, sandblasters, and high-reach boom lifts.

Every Type of Piping System We Paint

We treat every pipe based on what it carries and where it is located, using industrial-grade coatings rather than standard paint.

RSP Painting

  • Sprinkler & Fire Suppression Lines: We paint fire protection pipes in bright, code-compliant “Safety Red” so inspectors can spot them immediately.

    RSP Painting

  • Natural Gas Lines: We coat interior and exterior gas lines in high-visibility “Safety Yellow” to prevent accidental impacts and meet local safety mandates.

    RSP Painting

  • Water & Sewage Lines: We protect chilled water, hot water, and wastewater pipes from “sweating” and rusting using moisture-resistant coatings.

  • Chemical & Process Piping: For manufacturing plants, we use heavy-duty epoxy and urethane coatings that resist harsh chemical spills, acids, and fumes.

  • Compressed Air & Vacuum Lines: We clear away dirt and oil to paint air lines in bright safety colors for quick maintenance identification.

  • Rooftop & Outdoor Pipes: We apply extreme UV-resistant coatings to outdoor lines baking in the sun to stop fading and weather damage.

  • High-Heat & Steam Pipes: We apply specialized silicone-ceramic paints that can handle extreme temperatures from up to without burning off.

Our Meticulous 4-Step Restoration Process

Industrial paint will fail immediately if it is slapped onto a dirty, rusty pipe. We do the job right from start to finish:

RSP Painting

  1. Industrial Surface Cleaning: We use wire wheels, power grinders, sandblasting, or hot water pressure washing to remove loose rust, grease, scale, and old peeling paint down to a clean metal surface.

  2. Rust-Inhibiting Priming: We apply a high-performance, direct-to-metal (DTM) or zinc-rich primer. This chemically seals out air and moisture, completely stopping future rust from growing.

    RSP Painting

  3. Durable Topcoat Application: We spray or brush on premium industrial epoxies, acrylics, or polyurethanes in the exact OSHA color required for your facility.

  4. Stenciling & Labeling: We can apply stenciled text (like “GAS” or “FIRE”) and flow-direction arrows directly onto the painted pipes so your team knows exactly which way liquids or gases are moving.

Why Facilities Managers Choose RSP Painting

  • OSHA & NFPA Code Compliance: We know the exact color charts required by law for safety inspectors, building codes, and insurance companies.

  • Zero Operations Disruption: Your plant or warehouse cannot shut down. Our crews work completely around your schedule, performing shifts overnight, on weekends, or during holiday closures.

  • Expert Masking & Isolation: We are incredibly careful. We wrap and mask off all heat-sensitive sprinkler heads, glass gauges, data plates, and nearby inventory in heavy plastic before we spray.

  • High-Reach Capability: We own a complete national fleet of scissor lifts, boom lifts, and high-altitude rigging to safely paint overhead pipe networks in ceilings over 100 feet tall.

Large FAQ Area (Common Pipe Painting Questions)

Why do industrial pipes need to be painted specific colors? Pipes are color-coded based on OSHA and ANSI standards so anyone in the building can identify hazards instantly. For example, Red means fire protection, Yellow means flammable gases, Blue means compressed air, and Green means water. This keeps your workers safe and keeps you from failing building inspections.

Will you get paint on our sprinkler heads? Never. Painting a fire sprinkler head can seal the fuse shut, preventing it from activating during a fire. We use precision masking tape and plastic to wrap every single sprinkler head and safety valve before a paint gun is ever triggered.

What causes pipes to rust so fast, and how do you stop it? Cold water pipes often “sweat” when warm, humid air hits them. This constant moisture causes fast rust and corrosion under insulation (CUI). We stop this by grinding away the rust and applying specialized “moisture-cure” primers that bond to the metal and block water from touching it.

Can you paint pipes while they are hot or running? Yes. For steam lines and high-heat industrial processes, we utilize specialized “in-service” high-temperature coatings. These can be safely applied directly onto hot metal surfaces without having to shut down your factory equipment.

Do you use regular house paint for pipes? No. Regular paint will bubble, crack, and peel off metal within a year. We only use heavy-duty industrial coatings like polyurethanes, epoxies, and direct-to-metal (DTM) enamels that are designed to handle chemical washdowns, impacts, and extreme weather.

Does your paint have a strong smell that will bother workers? For indoor offices, schools, and hospitals, we use high-performance, low-odor, and Zero-VOC coatings. These dry rapidly and carry no harsh chemical fumes, meaning adjacent rooms can stay fully occupied while we work.

Are your pipe painters background-checked? Yes. Security is a top priority for us. Every single painter on the RSP crew is a direct employee who has passed comprehensive background checks and regular drug screenings. You can trust our uniformed pros around your expensive equipment.
