High Rise Building Painting

The Scranton Life Building in Downtown Scranton PA. / And its very non-professional owner, secretary, and lawyer brother.

On this painting project we painted approximately 400 exterior windows. These windows were highly neglected, and probably haven’t been painted for 20 years or more. They were dry, some were rotted, some were warped, and all were in need of some serious attention. We had no way to access these windows using a lift, and was way too high for ladders so we had to erect our swing-stage equipment. We also had to hire an electrician to run a 220 electrical supply. This project took a few months to complete and as you can see if your familiar with this building it looks great. We have gotten many compliments, and have received many job opportunities from this project.

Prep and Painting of the windows

For this project we brought in our Sherwin Williams Rep to tell us his thoughts on the best spec to protect these poor condition windows for years to come. His recommendation was to scrape all loose paint and apply 2 coats of their highest quality self priming paint. Retail Store painting did exactly that and even much more than we were contracted to do. We replaced some wood, added some screws, caulked in windows, and whatever was needed. We also helped the maintenance man do some of his work. that they weren’t able to reach.

Payment on this project / The best part

when we started this project it was later in the summer and the temperature was starting to drop. After we worked our first few days we were called in to Tony Rinaldi’s office where him and his secretary Don Rinaldi told us that they were afraid the temp. was too cold and did not want to proceed until the next spring. We came to that agreement and asked if it was ok to leave our equipment on the building or to remove it  they said no don’t remove it thats too much work just leave it there.  Next spring came and we had just been awarded a very large painting project so I made an appointment with Tony’s Secretary Don, and I went to their office. I explained the situation and I offered them a 5% discount to put the project off until the next spring. They accepted and we drew up a new contract showing the new discounted price and the new start date. Again I said we aren’t using the equipment and should we leave it or remove it? they said no leave it.  the following spring that was the first job on our schedule We started the project and worked there for weeks. Everyone was happy with the work before we moved our equipment to the next spot Don the secretary and his boss Tony inspected each move we fixed everything they saw and moved on.  When we approx 1/2 way through the project Tony stopped dealing with us, It seemed like everything that needed to be done Don took care of. we were given 2 payments up to this point.  When we finished the project we asked them to look everything over and OK the job They all said everything was GOOD and said we can remove our equipment from the building for good we were completed except for 1 row of windows close to a power line so we had to get a 120 ft lift to complete that row. A few weeks later we rented this lift for $2000 and finished the windows. That was the last day Don, or Tony ever returned my calls, texts etc. I kept texting them day after day after day.  Then I was contacted by my attorney saying that Dons brother Bill ( who is a lawyer ) had told him that if I don’t stop contacting them they will sue me for slander and harassment…

After telling several people about this incident I started learning more and more that this was apparently their game. They are crooks and try to rip off anyone they can and they stand behind their relative who is a lawyer.  Is what people say about them  Since doing commercial painting since 1999 we have never been not paid by any customer except these people. How can you let people work on your property for weeks and not pay them??  is anyone else has stories about this family please share them with me @ jack@retailstorepainting.com
